Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic meet in Australian Open final

Australian Open men’s singles will see Spaniard Rafael Nadal taking on world number one Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard had worked hard to pull off a four setter with the 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. Nadal had overcome strong opening given by the Swiss giant to storm to the finals. He won in 4 sets with 6-7 (5/7), 6-2, 7-6 (7/5), and 6-4. This means Swiss great’s agony of losing to the Spaniard (8 in 10 Grand Slam encounters) continues.

Post match Nadal said, “For me it’s a dream to be back in the final. “It’s a real honor to play against Roger. It was a fantastic match. It’s fantastic to have one player in front of you who doesn’t make mistakes, having a totally complete game.

Nadal will now have to overcome fatigued and tired Serb and defending champ Novak Djokovic who beat Britain’s Andy Murray to come to finals. Djokovic had had a tiring semi-final match against the Brit and it took almost five hours for the Serb to ground the resilient Brit. There were a couple of long rallies (going past 20 shots) that put the Serb under severe shortness of breath and he looked terribly tired. Hopefully he will come back after good rest on Saturday to the Rod Laver Arena to defend his Australian Open title against Rafa. It’d be the most entertaining match of this month and I’d bet my money on the Spaniard for his comeback form and his strength to overwhelm the opponents with pressure and succumbing them with his agility on court.
